CTD’s 35th Annual Convention
Event date: March 3 - 5, 2013 | Location: Austin, Texas
March 3 - 5, advocates and professionals from all over the state gathered in Austin for CTD's 35th Annual Convention. With session underway, advocacy was the focus of our efforts. Highlights of this year's convention include:
- Key Note Speaker: Dr. Al Condeluci, CEO of UCP/CLASS and University of Pittsburgh professor, spoke on the concept of Social Capital and working towards inclusion.
- Key Note Speakers Steve Gold and Bob Kafka spoke during the convention and joined thousands for the Texas Medicaid Matters March & Rally following the convention.
-
Our state agency commissioners panel was the best of any Texas conference this year, with Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Deputy Executive Commissioner Chris Traylor, Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) Commissioner Jon Weizenbaum, and Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Commissioner Debra Wanser, the top agencies for people with disabilities and seniors.
-
Skills-building with a mock hearing and workshops on advocacy and issues and My Medicaid Matters plenary.
The convention ended with a bang: the Texas Medicaid Matters March & Rally, the largest disability rights rally in Texas history! Some 3,000 advocates met at the Capitol under an incredibly blue sky, where speakers from all over the state shared their stories and encouragement. A barrage of legislative visits followed.
